TAiM: Transforming Antiquities in the Midwest Workshop
Call for Abstracts! Transforming Antiquities in the Midwest will be happening again on Friday May 21, 2027.
You are invited to submit an abstract for this annual pre-read works-in-progress one day symposium held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the beautiful Marquette University Campus.
We will be accepting approximately five works-in-progress papers this year for workshop based engagement.
The goal of TAiM is to provide an inviting and encouraging space for transformative work in the humanities, specifically for those engaging ancient Greek and Roman thought at the site of social identity, power, and social organization, and especially in relation to areas of contemporary concern, such as emerging technologies, techniques of racialization, reproductive politics, authoritarian government, environmental justice, containment and abolition practices, and more. This workshop aims to provide a low-stakes environment to get to know people working on similar topics within the region—to that end, the workshop will also include coffee, snacks, and lunch from a local Milwaukee restaurant.

2026: Transforming Antiquities in the Midwest
The first annual workshop of “Transforming Antiquities in the Midwest” (TAiM) was held on May 29, 2026. It was attended by faculty across five different disciplines and all ranks, including graduate students, assistant, associate, and full professors, and even a high school student and hosted about 15-20 partipants. Participants pre-read articles in reception studies, classics, philosophy, gender and sexuality studies, and political theory as they worked together pushing the boundaries of what constitutes ancient philosophy.
Preparation for the second annual TAiM workshop in May 2027 is underway. The abstract submission form can be found above.
